Mini volley is a new sport that was born in 1972 in Taiki town in Hokkaido, Japan.
Using soft surface ball like beach ball and smaller size court just like badminton court, 4 players in one team play games. Mini volley has been played in all generations such as elementary school students and over 80-year-old persons. This is such a fun and exciting sport that I have ever seen! People who are lack of exercise, people who really want to play artistic and enthusiastic sport, and people who want to enjoy with their partners, friends, and family play together in Mini volley court. We often see family players and sometimes see grandpa/grandma and grandchildren enjoying Mini volley together. So, everybody can enjoy Mini volley in their own way.

Mini volley players, in deed, have helped each other in various occasions. In my experience, I encountered a big earthquake during my business trip in Hokkaido in 2018. A Tokyo-area living Mini volley colleague knew that I was alone in Hokkaido without hotel room because airline had been all cancelled. She communicated with a Mini volley friend in Hokkaido and the friend tried to come pick me up and let me stay at her home during such a chaos situation. I was really touched with their kindness and in the same time, I realized that we are such a warm relationship provided by Mini volley world.
Mini volley is a good sport for exercise, but you can get and/or feel more from this sport…
How to play Mini Volley
Playing Mini volley is easy.
Now you can see how it is!
Serve can be hit anywhere behind the end line and the ball hitting anywhere within the opposite boundary lines is “in”!
Bump is fun but a little bit tricky, because the air inflated ball rotates or make a curve. This is one of unique points of Mini volley.
Set and Spike is a highlight of this team sport. When setter assists a great spike to kill, all of the team member become very excited and feel full of satisfaction.
